Rules for Credit Based Semester Grading System (CBSGS)

(F.Y. / S.Y. /T.Y. – B.A./ B.Com./ B .Sc. Semester I/II/III/IV/V/VI)

Examinations are held by the affiliated colleges on behalf of University of Mumbai. Introduction of ten point choice based credit system for F.Y. classes came into effect from June 2016-17.

  • The performance of the learners is evaluated in one component for majority of courses in the faculty of Arts, Commerce and Science by conducting Semester End. Examination of 100 marks
  • Besides this, the performance is evaluated in two components in the subjects of Foundation Course at FY and SY level, and Mathematics at FY Level. The learners’ performance is assessed by Internal Assessment with 25 marks in the first components and by conducting Semester End Examination with 75 marks in the second components.

Standard of Passing

The Learners to pass the course will to secure 40% marks in aggregate for in each course. Where course consists of Internal Assessment and Semester End Examination, there is separate head of passing. The Learners should obtain 40% (10 out of 25) in the internal assessment and 40% marks in the Term End Examination (30 out of 75). The Learners must secure “D” Grade in each course.

Allowed To Keep Terms (ATKT) Faculty of Arts, Commerce and Science

  • A learner shall be allowed to keep term for semester II irrespective of number of courses of failure in Semester I.
  • A learner shall be allowed to keep term for semester III if he/she passes each of Semester I and Semester II
  • OR

  • A leaner fails in not more than two courses of Semester I and Semester II taken together.
  • A learner shall be allowed to keep term for semester IV irrespective of number of courses of failure in Semester III. However, the Learner has to pass each of Semester I and Semester II in order to appear for Semester IV.
  • A learner shall be allowed to keep term for semester V if he/she passes each of Semester I, Semester II, Semester III and Semester IV
  • OR

  • A leaner shall pass Semester I and Semester II and fails in not more than two courses of Semester III and Semester IV taken together.
  • A learner shall be allowed to keep term for semester VI irrespective of number of courses of failure in Semester V.
  • A Learner can appear for the Semester VI examination but the result of Semester VI shall be kept in abeyance until the learner passes each of Semester I, Semester II, Semester III, Semester IV and Semester V.

University Internal Examination

As per the university timetable internal examinations held prior to the theory examination.

Continuous Internal Evaluations

As per the academic calendar, internal class tests for all subjects taken in the month of August and January in the academic year.
